Brazil Brown Bag Seminar Series – Solid Organizations in a Liquid World

Join the Center for Brazilian Studies in its Brazil Brown Bag Seminar Series. The lecture, entitled “Solid Organizations in a Liquid World,” will be given by political scientist Lucia Nader.

How professional rights-based groups are reacting to the multiplicity of information and agendas, the new roles of individuals and the crisis of state institutions made even more visible during recent mass protests and in new social movements. Focusing on Brazil, the United States, and Europe, Lucia is researching how organizations and donors are adjusting to an increasingly agitated social landscape. More at

Lucia Nader. Currently a fellow with the Open Society Foundations, Lucia was until recently the executive director of Conectas Human Rights, a Brazilian NGO that works to strengthen the work of human rights activists in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Previously, she served as the executive secretary of the Brazilian Foreign Policy and Human Rights Committee, and in 2009, she was named a Social Entrepreneur by Ashoka, in recognition of her work to hold the Brazilian government accountable for its foreign policy regarding human rights violations. She received her master’s degree in development and international organizations from the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences-Po).
